Pack 1965 is SCOUTStrong!

SCOUTStrong PALA Challenge

To help get youth more active, BSA launched the SCOUTStrong Program. SCOUTStrong was kicked off by announcing a collaboration with the President’s Challenge, the premier program of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN), resulting in a Scout-specific Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) challenge.

This challenge is open to everyone associated with BSA, including Scouts, parents, volunteers, and alumni.

To earn the SCOUTStrong PALA Challenge Award, you are required to meet a daily activity goal (see recommended activities below) for at least five days a week, for six out of eight weeks:

  • 30 minutes a day for adults
  • 60 minutes a day for kids under 18
Also, each week you will focus on a healthy eating goal. There are eight to choose from (see healthy eating goals below), and each week you will add a new goal while continuing with your previous goals.
If you stick with the program and log your activities, you can earn a SCOUTStrongTM PALA award patch in less than two months. You will also receive a certificate of completion along with your patch.

Remember: Move it. Track it. Earn it!

(Almost) Everything counts!

The SCOUTStrong TM PALA is designed to include any activity consisting of any movement that uses large muscle groups. Physical activity doesn’t have to be continuous to be healthy. Doing chores around the house counts. So does walking to school. More than 100 activities can be used to achieve a SCOUTStrongTM PALA. But remember, playing passive video games doesn’t count!

Recess? Practice? Walking? Count it!

Participating in recess, after-school athletic practices, or Scouting activities all count toward a SCOUTStrongTM PALA. Also, you can walk it too! Use a pedometer to measure the daily number of steps to earn the patch.

Log your activity for 6 out of 8 weeks

Log online

To support our scouts and their families, we have created some handy online forms for folks to use below. Click the links below to access the online form for that week.

Log on paper

If a paper form would work better for you, click here to download a paper log. Print it out and log your activity as you go. When you are done, submit a copy to your den leader. Please do not submit to the President’s Challenge office.

Share your experience with your Den Leader, our Pack Chair, or Webmaster. Also consider sharing your progress on our Facebook page.
