First Scout Meeting Sun. 8/28 4pm

This Sunday, August 28, begins our weekly meetings (except 5th grade/Arrow of Light Scouts)! Please join us at 4pm in Krist Hall at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church. Google Maps Link to St. Thomas Scouts will all meet together and then divide up by dens based on grade level. They will meet their den leader(s) and the other scouts in their group. This first meeting is great to get an idea of what’s to come for the year and to offer any ideas or ask questions.

If you have any questions about joining Scouts or dues, we will have plenty of leaders who are able to provide answers and assistance. Specifically, dues for your first registered scout is $75, 2nd scout is $25 and there is no fee for additional scouts as fees are capped at $100 per family. Although dues are not officially due Sunday, Zac Whirley will be available Sunday to take payments. Collecting dues as soon as possible helps with planning events for the year. They can be paid by check, cash, cc, or by Paypal to chair@pack1965.org . If needed, we can accept installment payments, feel free to reach out and let us know if this would be beneficial.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all Sunday at 4!

Pack 1965 Annual Open House/Join Night THIS SUNDAY

Cub Scout Pack 1965 – Clear Lake/Nassau Bay is having its Open House/Join Night this Sunday, 21 August, at 4:00pm.

Our pack is open to boys and girls ages 5-10 or K-5th grade. In fact, you might like to know that since the BSA opened Cub Scouts to girls in 2019, Pack 1965 has consistently had more girls registered than any other pack in the Houston area (that’s about 700 packs) and we brag about that every chance we get.

Please come spend an hour with us this Sunday – our den leaders and older Scouts will take all the kids out to the playground for some games and skills demonstrations, while we give you a brief overview of Cub Scouts and what Pack 1965 does specifically. If you’re interested, you can join then, or you’re welcome to come to a few meetings to see if we’re a good fit for you without any obligation.

Please invite your friends and show them how much fun we have at Cub Scout Pack 1965!

Cub Scout Fishing Tournament

The San Jacinto District Cub Scout Fishing Tournament is coming up!  The fishing tournament is for Cub Scouts (kindergarten through 5th grade), families and friends thinking about joining Cub Scouts. Cub Scouts love to fish. Cub Scouts will compete to catch the longest, smallest and most fish by rank. Bait will be provided, just bring your pole. You can bring a friend along too. When you are done, scouts will earn a patch.

They will also need help from our AWESOME volunteers for various tasks (handing out bait, measuring fish, etc.)  If you are planning to be out there and would like to help out please contact Thom Fitzgerald at rodeokidsz9@gmail.com.

Join Night Aug. 22 4pm

We are in for some fun year this year! We are happy to announce that we will have both a fall and spring campout for our scouts in addition to a rocket day, rain gutter regatta, and pinewood derby race. Take a look at our updated calendar  and get ready for epic fun!

When your scout and family participate in our events, you can trust that we will be taking every reasonable precaution to keep you and our community safe.

If you have any questions about what we have in store, reach out to our leadership team. Better yet, come to our “Join Night” on August 22nd and ask us in person. We would love to have you there!

Come join us for some games, snacks, and have your questions answered about how our pack does Scouting the fun (and safe!) way!

Fall Events

Unfortunately, this year St. Thomas the Apostle has canceled its Fall Family Festival.  This means we won’t be having the annual bake sale, but our Executive Committee has decided to move forward with pumpkin patch sales. We will be responsible for the weekend shifts, so please visit our volunteer signup on signupgenius.com and sign up for a shift.

We are exploring other fundraising opportunities and we’ll surely pull through fine, if just a little leaner than in the past.  We are working on finalizing our activities for the year (for example, Scout Olympics and Raingutter Regatta are out for obvious reasons, but we will likely have rocket launches and perhaps camp-outs as well) and they will be uploaded to the calendar as soon as possible.

Welcome

Welcome to our website! Cub Scout Pack 1965 was established in 2017 to serve the families of the Clear Lake, Webster, Nassau Bay (and other!) areas.

Our pack is open to all children in kindergarten through fifth grades (or ages 5-10). We meet each Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Nassau Bay.

DO YOUR BEST. HAVE FUN DOING IT.

The best way to find out what you do best is to do it. Throw a football. Catch a fish. Ride a bike. Set up a tent. Build a Pinewood Derby car. Shoot a bow and arrow. Launch a rocket! Cub Scouting offers boys and girls the opportunity to see and learn fun, new things that can’t be found anywhere else.

COVID-19 Response

As you all know this year has been very trying for everyone and that is especially true for Scouting, as we are by nature a group activity.  Nonetheless, Cubmaster Hal and Committee Chair Zac worked with Chartered Organization Representative Father Mike Stone to create what we think are reasonable protocols for in-person meetings during this still-uncertain time. They have created a document outlining our guidelines for your review prior to your first meeting. Please submit a signed copy to your Den Leader and Zac, our committee chair.

Zac made a survey of families to see who would be returning to in-person Scouting this year; 30 out of 60 families responded. With the exception of a couple of families that plan to be inactive, about half said they’d like to Scout in person as we did before while observing safety guidelines. About 35% said they’d do a hybrid mix of in-person and Scouting from home (with mom/dad), and about 10% said they’d Scout from home only.  Since we normally don’t have 100% attendance at meetings, combined with the responses received in the survey, we don’t believe we’ll have an issue with overcrowding this year. Even so, it is good to be prepared.

Our Den Leaders will be relying pretty heavily on Scoutbook this year. You will need to register for an account for your child if you haven’t already. So if you’re not familiar with it, check it out and consider downloading the app. Please RSVP for meetings via Scoutbook. This will help Den Leaders know how many and who to expect at meetings.

Even though we cannot meet as we did before, we will adapt to conditions to stay connected and stay vigilant to stop the spread of the virus.

If you have further questions, please contact our Committee Chair Zac Whirley at chair@pack1965.org.
